HOMAN MAUBARA

A project to design the identity and several information panels for an exhibition titled Homan Maubara (Maubara Basketry). This exhibition produced by Timor Aid was presented at the Xanana Cultural Centre in Timor-Leste. Maubara is a village in the district of Liquiçá with a long tradition of basket-making in Timor-Leste. The typography employed for the identity of the exhibition was inspired by the intricate hand weaving techniques. Usually made by women, this practice offers an extensive repertoire of domestic basketry items with old and new motifs using local materials and designs rich in meaning and colour.
