Tatoli ba Kultura (Passing on Culture) was a research project that aimed at gaining the necessary materials and knowledge to establish the basis for a future Academy of Arts Creative Industries in Timor-Leste. The research identified products and skills, historic materials and artefacts, tangible and intangible culture, through fieldwork research and access to national and international collections. It provided the foundation for the development of an indigenous-focused curriculum within a conservation–innovation framework.
The project was produced in partnership with Prof Tony Fry from QCA, supported by Griffith University, funded with an Australian Development Research Award, and in collaboration with the Secretary of State for Arts & Culture in Timor-Leste. Lasting almost four years, the project involved several phases; from fieldwork research across the country, knowledge management, the production of information design products and social media (YouTube, Facebook and Flickr), to the management of a team of freelance collaborators and the production of several exhibitions and events showcasing the progress and results of the project.
