Timor-Leste 20 anos: Exposição coletiva timorense mostra o melhor da arte contemporânea. António Sampaio, Agência Lusa
Hasoru-Malu is the first virtual exhibition produced to present Timorese contemporary arts to a wider audience. It was produced to accompany the main art exhibition that opened in Dili on 18th May 2022, organised by Joanna Camargo at Fundação Oriente and with th eocassion to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Restoration of Timor-Leste's Independence. Curated by Maria Madeira, this unique exhibition brought together artworks by some of the most notable Timorese visual artists at the time. The artworks presented include paintings, photography, video and installation work. The exhibition was presented in a website produced uniquely for this event.
The branding was produced in response to the given title: Hasoru-malu, in Tetun, means to meet, while soru means ‘weave’, soru-malu meaning to 'inter-connect’. To the participant artists this was an opportunity to come together and (re)unite, joining efforts to contribute to the development of the creative industries in this young nation, while bringing Timor-Leste’s contemporary art to the international landscape.
